PEORIA -- This is quite a week for people who love to read. Here are the events, underpublicized elsewhere, free unless otherwise noted and open to the public. They are sponsored by the Peoria Public Library and its Peoria Reads project.
1. The Mystery of the Peoria Falcon, 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, Lakeview Museum Auditorium.
Peoria has its own mysterious falcon, an artifact at Lakeview Museum made by early Native Americans. Find out what we know about this ancient object from expert Kelvin Sampson from the Illinois State Museum. Kelvin Sampson has been the exhibits designer at The Dickson Mounds Museum for over 20 years. He has been researching copper plate like the Peoria Falcon for 10 years.
2. Meet Julie Rivett, Granddaughter of Dashiell Hammett.
Julie is one of four of Dashiell Hammett’s grandchildren and devotes her time to writing about him and curating exhibits about the famous author. Find out about the author of The Maltese Falcon. Here are the times and places.

3. Grand Finale - Author Sara Paretsky.
Admirer and champion of Dashiell Hammett, Sara Paretsky is an internationally-known, award-winning mystery author. She is the creator of V.I. Warshawski, the first female “Sam Spade.” Do not miss the chance to hear her speak.
