PEORIA -- This looks interesting. Get the inside story on Russia.
The Peoria Area World Affairs Council presents “Understanding Russia Today: Leadership Styles, Energy Policy, and Foreign Affairs” with Steve LeVine, foreign affairs correspondent for Business Week and author of Putin's Labyrinth and The Oil and the Glory.
From an interview in Harper's magazine by Scott Horton: "The Oil and the Glory (is) a penetrating examination of the post-Soviet oil industry and the role it plays in the region’s politics.... A second book takes a much deeper look under the covers of Vladimir Putin’s Russia. In Putin’s Labyrinth LeVine surveys the heavy handed and often murderous techniques that Russia’s men of power use to retain and advance their positions–developments that any reporter residing in Russia covers at his great peril—a point abundantly chronicled in the book."
This luncheon
program will be held on Saturday, February 20 at Barrack’s Cater Inn. You
may find the registration form at the World Affairs Council's website, and register on-line
at the Arts Council website.
