PEORIA -- Another day, another robbery/murder. Here's the story from the March 31 Peoria Journal Star.
Here's more of the story from Burt Raabe who lives near the murder scenes:
"Last year a man was killed at the gas station across from Glen oak
Park. He was an immigrant from India with a family. He was trying to
fulfill his dreams.
The murder last night across from the new Glen Oak
School was of a Palestinian man who had four daughters and whose family
had just moved here from the quad cities. Rather than downplaying or just letting this pass, I think
attention should be brought to these stories by the media.
We can build a state of the art school on the East Bluff, but if the Taliban is running the neighborhood, who will feel safe sending their kids there?
We need to get to the ROOT of the problem, which I don't know what it is. These victim's stories are heartbreaking because they believed in the American dream which many of us have become so jaded and cynical to not trust."-- Burt Raabe, Peoria IL
Not to quibble, but I your headline implies that these men were killed because they were immigrants (that they were "targeted"). That is less likely the case than "Murders in Peoria target shopkeepers" or "Murders in Peoria target small business owners." I don't think you meant anything by the headline, but I doubt these men were killed for any reason other than they were behind the counter when some jackass punk decided he needed a few bucks.
