HANDS ACROSS THE SAND … A
GATHERING TO OPPOSE OFFSHORE DRILLING AND CHAMPION CLEAN ENERGY ON THE PEORIA
RIVERFRONT
On Saturday, June 26, people across the globe will gather at
their local beaches and riverfronts to draw a line in the sand and say
“no” to offshore drilling and “yes” to a clean energy
future for America. Gatherings have been organized in all fifty states and
numerous countries around the world. The global web site, www.handsacrossthesand.com,
recounts the origins of the event as well as its vision and goals. National
sponsors include Sierra Club, Audubon, Defenders of Wildlife, Greenpeace,
350.org, moveon.org and 42 other groups. Locally the event is being hosted by
the Global Warming Solutions Group of Central Illinois, Peoria Families Against
Toxic Waste, and the Heart of Illinois Sierra Club.

What: |
Hands Across the Sand is an international movement made up
of people of all walks of life and all political affiliations. This movement
is not about politics; it is about protection of America’s coasts,

oppose offshore oil drilling and champion clean energy and renewables. We aim
to convince our State officials, Congress and President Obama to stop the
expansion of offshore oil drilling and to adopt policies encouraging
clean and renewable energy sources. We believe clean renewable energy
is the only way to safeguard America’s future. |
