PEORIA -- The Moonlight Coalition invites you to walk around the Stadium Park and surrounding fields in an event at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26.
It's a free fundraiser, with donations accepted for The Moonlight Coalition for Adult Learning, which provides GED classes for adults.
Here's more from the news release:
"Whether you're young or old, a current or former
athlete, a sports fan, a concerned neighbor, or a green space advocate,
we invite everyone to join us to show support for maintaining this
recreational facility in the heart of the City of Peoria.
The Moonlight Coalition for Adult Learning
was originally established in 1994 to provide organized activities for
young members of the community to combat juvenile delinquency and
prevent crime. Organized sports like basketball were combined with GED
instruction.
Moonlight used recreation as the hook to education. Today,
the Moonlight concept has come full circle. The GED portion has grown
into a full time program. Now education is the hook to recreation.
Moonlight GED classes are held at Proctor Recreation Center 309 S.
Dusable in Peoria.
Staying true to its origins, the Moonlight
Coalition also works to ensure accessibility to quality recreational
facilities for all members of the community- especially youth and the
underserved."
