PEORIA, IL -- From a news release:
Celebrate Read Across Illinois, Family Reading Night with Potts & Pans at Peoria Public Library
Peoria Public Library will encourage families to come to North Branch from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 21 to celebrate Family Reading Night by gathering a supply of books while they enjoy the sounds of the internationally acclaimed steelband Potts & Pans.
“Read Across Illinois” is the theme for the Thursday, November 21 statewide celebration of family reading this year. Family Reading Night, sponsored by Jesse White, Secretary of State and State Librarian, and the Illinois Center for Book, is an annual statewide event that encourages families to spend quality time reading together.
Potts & Pans is comprised mainly of Northern Illinois University graduates that were a part of the NIU steelband. These experienced musicians strive for playing difficult music, arranging their own music and showing the diversity of the instrument. This fascinating look at a seldom heard instrument is the perfect start to an evening of turning off the TV and shutting out social media and games for a few hours while families enjoy some time reading together.
Be sure your family sets aside time to read together on Thursday, November 21. It’s easy with all the great books and tools for finding them available at Peoria Public Library!
