CHICAGO, IL -- The June 30, 2018 Chicago rally to reunite families with their children was amazing and awesome.
Thousands of people appeared, with colorful handmade signs and musical instruments. Many signs attacked Trump, Pence and the GOP for policies that led to nearly 3,000 children now separated from migrant parents and most placed in prison-like conditions. Some asked for ICE to be abolished. Here's a good one:
Despite the 90 degree heat, the crowd sang, chanted, and listened to speakers for an hour. A surprise politician, J. B Pritzker, Democratic party candidate for Illinois governor appeared briefly to shake hands. People greeted him as "our next governor."
After an hour the rally marched with a line blocks long, too long to calculate the length, along Clark then back to Dearborn Street, going two different ways at the same time.
The people were angry over the GOP policies, with some signs urging voting in November. But it was also peaceful, polite and good natured, sharing water and shade.
Politicians should beware, because people of all ages, races, colors and other aspects are mad and ready for change.
