PEORIA, IL -- A rumor that the Peoria County Board may sell the county nursing home, Heddington Oaks is a concern. Many board members were elected on a promise not to sell, and should not now break their promises.
My husband spent two weeks there in September, 2019. The nurses and staff were wonderful to him, kind, friendly, patient and flexible, with plenty of expertise.
The facility itself is lovely, new and clean, with a laid back ambience. Even dogs can visit their loved ones. Its setting, next to a forest with deer, provides access to nature on the walking/wheeling trail that circles the building.
It could use more volunteers to organize activities, so anyone looking to support a worthwhile cause should consider volunteering there.
Selling it would be a huge mistake. If it is losing money, increase the prices. It would still provide competition to the other nursing homes and keep overall costs down in Peoria for everyone. Any person is just one medical emergency away from needing a nursing home, so this issue affects everyone.
