PEORIA, IL -- Here are two events this week:

CLEANUP EVENT / Sunday, June 14,  11:30am - 1:30pm 

Followed by COMMUNITY COOKOUT 1:30 -4pm

 

>From the Facebook event description:

 

"Join us Sunday June 14th! As we partake in another neighborhood clean up. This time we will be picking up trash around the Harrison Homes & surrounding areas from 11:30-1:30pm . Afterwards from 1:30-4pm we will be hosting a community cookout in which everyone is invited. We are asking for those interested to bring garbage bags, gloves or hot dogs, buns, soda & chips, etc.. "

More than one group is publicizing the event on Facebook, including Aaron Chess and Patrice Foster, Peoria Drum Circle and Peoria Cleanup Volunteers, and it looks like a lot of people are signing up on the Facebook event to say that they plan to attend. (53 'Going' and 191 'Interested').

Living in Peoria?

PEORIA, IL -- The Peoria District 150 School Board on June 8 debated and rejected a proposal to require administrators to lie in the school district.  Here is the Peoria Journal Star's story on the meeting.

Activist Sharon  Crews then penned this comment:

"With regard to where administrators should live--I don't care where they live because I don't think they should work on Wisconsin Avenue. I think the staff on Wisconsin Avenue should be cut in half for starters.

"They are assigned to do the work (planning, etc.) that teachers should be allowed to do for themselves These administrators haven't been in a classroom for years and couldn't wait to get out of the classroom.

"If they are allowed to stay on Wisconsin Avenue, then their salaries should be lowered and those that work with students all day every day need to be paid the most."
