UPDATE 7/14/2020 -- The letter arrived with a phone number that finally worked so I called, and paid with my credit card. I could have mailed a check. Both systems avoid Ticket Master. See story below.
UPDATE --The American Theater Guild, the out of town organization selling the Broadway series tickets, has extended its purchase deadline to July 20. Wonder how many season ticket holders bought from it this past weekend? Few, I'll wager. See story below.
PEORIA, IL -- For years I have been a season ticket holder for the Peoria Civic Center's Broadway series. I have great seats, and don't want to lose them, so I resubscribe every year even if most of the selections are repeats or worse. I try to sell or donate tickets I don't want to use.
But this year? On July 9 I received a weird email stating that I must sign up by Monday, July 13 to get the seats again, and only with a credit card using Ticket Master.
Ticket Master? They take a huge fee, which apparently is folded into the very high season ticket price. And an out of town group is handling the ticket sales, according to CIvic Center manager Beau Sutherland. So they get a cut too.
Is the CC nuts? The ticket sales have been outsourced with the virus blamed. But someone is doing this work, and getting paid, Civic Center employees should be outraged, and should be doing the work.
Sutherland called and told me a letter soon will be sent in the mail to former season ticket holders like me, because guess why? He doesn't have the emails for lots of them.
Duh!
Will the out of town group accept checks? If not, kiss many season ticket holders goodbye. And what about that Ticket Master fee? Do they have to pay it anyway?
I plan to attend the next Civic Center Authority meeting on July 23 to complain. I don't want to lose my good seats, otherwise I wouldn't renew.
It's all outrageous.
